Effortless Effort in Yoga Asana

In this 3-day workshop, we will explore the family of asanas as taught by B.K.S. Iyengar. Through the use of props, proper sequence and timing, and with the intention to respect the body and to minimize physical injuries, we will open to discover the place where we can practice with “effortless effort”. There will be unstructured personal time each day for individual questions to address injuries or special conditions, create personal sequences and turn inward for self-practice.

The schedule includes 3 classes per day: Asana, Pranayama and restorative yoga.

Iyengar Yoga is characterized by great attention to detail and a precise focus on body alignment. Iyengar pioneered the use of “props” such as cushions, benches, blocks, straps which function as aids that allow the practitioner to experience asanas on a deeper level.

The uniqueness of Iyengar yoga comes from:

  • Technique: The precision of the body’s alignment.
  • Sequence: Following the specific sequence is important in achieving the desired result.
  • Timing: Defining the time spent in each pose or pranayama for the most benefit.

Yoga is for everyone to experience in a way which is safe, accessible and rewarding.
